The Featherbrite cagetop light is well designed & constructed. It attaches and detaches from Charly's enclosure in a simple but secure fashion. The lamp is infinitely superior to the competition as it will fit virtually any enclosure. Additionally, although I've experienced no problems with the lamp, a failed part can be replaced easily in the event of a failure. Most importantly, the full spectrum light conveys benefits to a bird who does not go outside. I began using a full spectrum lamp at the recommendation of Charly's avian vet. Signs of Vitamin D deficiency observed on first exam have disappeared at annual follow-up.
The wire arm used to keep the wire out of the bird's reach could be improved. If Charly is playing on her cage, she can reach the cable. The lamp must be removed when letting the bird out of the cage to assure the bird doesn't chew on the electric cable.
The useful life span of the bulbs is unclear. Charly's vet states the production of UV depreciates considerably after six (6) months of use. The packaging of the bulb I currently have on-hand reports 8,000 hours rated life (which is almost two years at 12/hours per day 7/days per week). 28,000 hours rated life translates to 6.39 YEARS of use at 12/hours per day 7/days per week. I have been replacing bulbs after six (6) months of use. I use the replaced bulbs in covered overhead fixtures ad they provide a much better quality of light than do those horrid CFL bulbs.

This is a very nice light! When I first got my GCC, Huginn, I bought him the Zoo Med Light. This is 100x nicer then the Zoo Med and did not cost as much. It brightens up my birds whole 30 x 30 cage and dosen't take up floor space.
