Owned for 4
This is a unique way to offer my parrot's main staples. We like that the dish is divided as it makes it just a little more challenging, and that the base has a nice widened edge for a comfortable grip. Also keeps floor mess down (vs side-mounted dishes) by hanging in the center of the cage and the lid keeps poop and other debris out of the food if you want to hang it under a perch so it helps use more vertical space in her cage. There is no way my parrotlet could break this plastic by chewing, very sturdy. Works best for dry foods as the dividers make it difficult to clean. To increase the complexity further, we just add other materials like paper, wood beads, flowers, etc. mixed in with her pellets.
- The lid is too heavy for my parrotlet to lift. I worked around this by tying string (creating a knot many times the size of the hole) through a link of the chain below the lid to keep it about half an inch above the base. A quick link or spacer would also do the trick. Because it's through a link, there's no chance of it sliding past so very secure; I can't force it past myself. This turns it into a great foraging toy because it's not enough space for her whole head but she can tilt both the base and lid to get enough space. We've been using it this way for a while and it works great. - The chain links are very tight but I would prefer welded. - The base of the chain is molded into the plastic instead of threaded through. I don't like this because it prevents me from replacing the chain with welded, and because I predict that this is where this toy will break as we use it every day and the whole toy weight is held up by the weakest point.
