East Coast Exotic Animal Rescue is a non-profit exotic animal sanctuary located in rural Pennsylvania. Our goal is to provide a forever home to the animals in our care. Does your favorite animal have feathers, fur, or scales? Our unique sanctuary is home to more than 40 species of exotic animals including birds, carnivores, and reptiles! For all of them, the rescue provides a lasting refuge where they can live their days in peace and safety.
ECEAR’s goals include:
-Provide a safe haven for these magnificent animals, many of whom have experienced a lifetime of displacement from their natural habitat and, in some cases, horrible mistreatment.
-Offer education to the public about the special needs of captive exotic animals who are unable to help themselves.
-Fundraise to keep the rescue operational.
Working with a supportive and involved board of directors and a few highly dedicated volunteers at the rescue, we are here not to promote these animals as pets, but rather to provide clear examples of the consequences of human self-interest and interference in the animals’ lives.
We receive the most calls about bird surrenders. With cognitive abilities that rival those of porpoises (and even 5 year-old children, according to some studies), coupled with a justifiable tendency towards developing emotional/behavioral problems due to lack of proper care, and a life-span of up to 100 years, parrots can be very challenging to keep as pets and are therefore often neglected, abused, and/or abandoned.
The birds at ECEAR have come here from various backgrounds. Many have had difficult lives, and quite a few have been passed through multiple homes, resulting in trust issues, anxiety, and even aggression in some cases. We also have some resident parrots who came to live with us after the death of an owner, or from people who made the responsible choice by surrendering their bird(s) to us due to various circumstances.
ECEAR has approximately 30 parrots living at our facility, varying in size from small conures to hyacinth macaws. We do not offer parrot adoption at our rescue, as our goal is to provide a loving, permanent home to all animals in our care. Due to a devastating fire last year, we are in desperate need of supplies (food, perches, toys for enrichment, cleaning supplies, etc.) and any donations are greatly and sincerely appreciated.
